    Types of anxiety disorder
There are several types of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAS), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCS) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

  • Anxiety disorders can be treated well with a combination of therapy, medication and self-care strategies:

    Therapy:

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps identify and change negative thinking patterns and behaviors that cause anxiety.

    • Exposure Therapy: Helps people gradually become exposed to their fears in a safe and controlled environment.

    Medication:

    • Antidepressants: Such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can help regulate neurotransmitters.

    • Anxiolytics: such as benzodiazepines can help reduce acute anxiety, although they are usually prescribed for short-term use.

    Self-care strategies:

    • Regular exercise: Can help reduce anxiety by releasing endorphins.

    • Mindfulness and meditation: Can help manage anxious thoughts and feelings.

    • Healthy lifestyle: Sufficient sleep, healthy diet and avoiding caffeine and alcohol can help reduce anxiety.
